Role Overview
The selected candidate will be responsible for the design, testing, certification, and development of high assurance encryption systems that meet NSA TEMPEST standards. This role requires providing specialized expertise in 'Design for TEMPEST' for various high assurance encryptors, including HAIPE, EDE, Space, and Tactical systems. Additionally, the engineer will manage the production TEMPEST sampling program and investigate any test failures to determine root causes.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with both analog and digital hardware design engineers, as well as mechanical engineers, to develop TEMPEST-compliant products.
- Advise on circuit designs, engage in design reviews, and conduct evaluations of new TEMPEST solutions.
- Examine schematic and CAD designs for compliance.
- Create and manage TEMPEST test plans, procedures, and documentation.
- Participate in the initial certification and submission processes for Viasat's TEMPEST facility.
- Oversee the company's certification under the TEMPEST Manufacturing and Test Services Program.
- Conduct testing in accordance with NSTISSAM TEMPEST/1-92 and CNSSAM TEMPEST 01-02 standards.
- Work alongside in-house and contract test technicians to perform both experimental and formal TEMPEST tests.
- Implement Viasat's production sampling TEMPEST program.
- Collaborate closely with NSA to ensure successful TEMPEST test outcomes and product certifications.
- Support the EMI/EMC qualification processes for Viasat products.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in hardware design for TEMPEST secure products.
- At least 3 years of TEMPEST experience following CTP certification.
- In-depth knowledge of NSTISSAM TEMPEST/1-92 and CNSSAM TEMPEST/01-02 specifications.
- Familiarity with TEMPEST testing equipment, including receivers, oscilloscopes, and signal analyzers.
- Solid understanding of analog and digital logic and timing considerations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of working with diverse teams.
- Ability to document and report technical findings effectively.
- Knowledge of production processes and common failure modes.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to troubleshoot production issues.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Engineering Physics, or Physics.
- NSA Certified TEMPEST Professional Level I (CTP-I).
- U.S. citizenship is required for this position.
- Active DoD Top Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain one when feasible.
- Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time if necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with MIL-STD-461/464 and/or DO-160 EMI/EMC standards.
- NSA Certified TEMPEST Professional Level II (CTP-II).
