Position Overview

KIND is in search of a Senior Paralegal to enhance the delivery of legal services through comprehensive case preparation, legal research, and various related tasks aligned with the legal strategy for our clients.

The Senior Paralegal will also oversee and mentor Paralegal(s) and other non-attorney personnel, facilitating their training and development in collaboration with Staff Attorneys, Senior Attorneys, and Managing Attorneys.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the overall operations of the KIND office paralegal program.
  • Onboard, train, and supervise paralegals, ensuring quality assurance of referrals, filings, and pleadings.
  • Conduct legal research, complete immigration benefit forms, and draft affidavits and motions for immigration and state court proceedings in consultation with attorneys.
  • Maintain accurate and timely file management and data entry into our case management system.
  • Assist attorneys in preparing clients for hearings and adjudicatory interviews.
  • Support the professional growth of paralegals and other staff in partnership with attorneys.
  • Monitor and ensure achievement of referral and intake metrics as per grants and contracts.
  • Supervise paralegals in conducting intake interviews and phone screenings, providing guidance as needed.
  • Assist with pro bono training, including preparation of training materials and conducting training sessions.
  • Evaluate cases for social service needs and coordinate referrals with Social Services Coordinators.
  • Perform the duties of an accredited representative for direct representation cases, including client interviews and filing applications for benefits.
  • Act as the primary contact for clients, ensuring that case files and management systems are up-to-date.
  • Support pro bono cases by assisting in case audits and ensuring timely updates are recorded.
Qualifications and Skills


Applicants should possess a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience, or a high school diploma with at least 5 years of relevant experience.

Fluency in both Spanish and English is required.

Candidates should have:

  • A minimum of 4 years of experience working with children, particularly at-risk youth, immigrants, or vulnerable populations.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in humanitarian-based immigration work.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience managing independent projects or programs.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working with detained populations or youth in various institutional settings.
  • Experience in preparing and delivering presentations on legal rights to immigrant audiences.
