The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Campus Police Lieutenant. This role is pivotal in ensuring the safety and security of the university community and its surroundings.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise and coordinate the activities of patrol teams and sergeants in specialized roles.
  2. Act as the Deputy Chief in the absence of the Chief of Police.
  3. Propose strategies and methods to enhance departmental efficiency.
  4. Assist in the formulation of programs aimed at improving law enforcement services.
  5. Review departmental records and reports; initiate corrective measures as necessary to ensure adherence to institutional regulations and applicable laws.
  6. Develop and oversee training programs for the police department; assess the effectiveness of these initiatives.
  7. Plan, schedule, and allocate personnel to various shifts and sections.
  8. Engage in personnel processes; provide recommendations regarding appointments, promotions, transfers, disciplinary actions, and separations.
  9. Perform additional related duties as required.

Supervision:

General direction is provided by the Deputy Chief of Police.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Operational and administrative oversight is exercised over commissioned staff, and occasionally non-commissioned personnel.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of two years of law enforcement experience or training in a supervisory capacity equivalent to Campus Police Sergeant; must possess a valid driver's license and have no felony convictions.
  • A bachelor's degree in Police Science may substitute for one year of required experience.
  • Equivalent education or experience may be considered to meet minimum qualifications, except where legal requirements exist.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be a commissioned law enforcement officer in the state or capable of obtaining such commissioning within a specified timeframe.
  • Familiarity with modern police science principles and administrative procedures.
  • Knowledge of relevant local, state, and federal laws and judicial decisions.
  • Experience in researching, developing, and drafting police policies.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Exhibit integrity and high standards of personal conduct.
  • Capability to prepare and present both oral and written reports regarding departmental activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive matters.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Proficient in computer usage, relevant software, and scheduling tools.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.

Working Conditions:

Expected to perform essential functions of the position, including standing, sitting, walking, and engaging with the public.
