Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate the operations of patrol teams and sergeants in specialized roles.
- Act as the Deputy Chief in the absence of the Deputy Chief of Police.
- Propose strategies and methods to enhance departmental efficiency.
- Assist in program development and implementation.
- Review departmental records and reports, taking corrective actions as necessary to ensure adherence to institutional regulations and applicable laws.
- Design and oversee training programs for the police department, assessing their effectiveness.
- Plan, schedule, and allocate personnel to various shifts and sections.
- Engage in personnel processes, providing recommendations on appointments, promotions, transfers, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
- Perform additional related duties as required.
Supervision:
General direction is provided by the Deputy Chief of Police, with operational and administrative oversight exercised over commissioned staff.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of two years of law enforcement experience or equivalent supervisory training.
- A valid motor vehicle driver's license and no felony convictions.
- A bachelor's degree in Police Science may substitute for one year of required experience.
- Equivalent education or experience may be considered for all minimum qualifications, except where legal requirements apply.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be a commissioned law enforcement officer in the State of Washington or capable of obtaining such commission within a year of employment.
- Familiarity with modern police science principles and administrative procedures.
- Knowledge of relevant local, state, and federal laws.
- Experience in researching, developing, and drafting police policies.
- Strong communication skills to effectively engage with a diverse community.
- Demonstrated integrity and high standards of conduct.
- Ability to prepare and present information effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Capacity to maintain confidentiality on sensitive matters.
- Proficient in computer usage and relevant software applications.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
Working Conditions:
This position requires the ability to perform various physical tasks, including standing, sitting, walking, and using manual dexterity for keyboarding and other activities. The role involves contact with the public and may require working in diverse environments.
