Job Summary

The Campus Security Officer is a critical role at Shoreline Community College, responsible for ensuring the safety and security of students, faculty, and staff. This position requires a high level of professionalism, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enforce state laws and college regulations within campus jurisdiction, issue citations, and assist with traffic control and flow.
  • Provide campus surveillance via vehicle/foot patrol for irregularities, lock/unlock buildings, and respond to medical emergencies, calls for assistance or service, and reports.
  • Respond to accidents/vehicle crimes, gather evidence/photos, locate witnesses, and complete incident reports.
  • Perform occasional outdoor tasks such as installing traffic signs, snow removal, battery jump-starts, unlocking car doors, and minor vehicle problem troubleshooting.
  • Provide security escorts for various departments/events, including financially-related transactions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned of a similar nature and level.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of full-time college education in police science or allied field, or two (2) years of police or campus security experience, or combination of experience and education.
  • Valid Washington State driver's license, clean driving record, and no previous felony convictions.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain upon offer of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Incident Command Systems (ICS 100 & ICS 200) certification.
  • Operation and experience with a hand-held radio.
  • Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Washington Administrative Code (WAC) and the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) governing access to building/grounds and rules of behavior.
  • General safety precautions and fire hazards, first aid, and law enforcement basics.
  • Use and operation of surveillance/security systems, burglar alarms, and fire suppression systems.
Working Conditions

The Campus Security Officer works in a fast-paced environment, often under pressure to respond to emergencies and incidents. The position requires the ability to work effectively in a team environment, communicate clearly and concisely, and maintain confidentiality and composure in an office or outdoor setting.
