Special Information:

The Aquatic Invasive Species Management Specialist oversees the supervisory personnel responsible for watercraft inspections and guarantees the effective execution of the watercraft inspection and decontamination initiatives. This role integrates all necessary considerations into the operational framework in alignment with statewide fisheries management strategies. The specialist is tasked with executing preventive measures outlined in the Aquatic Nuisance Species Management Plan, ensuring that all facets of the prevention operation are optimized for efficiency and effectiveness. Additionally, this position plays a crucial role in rapid response readiness in collaboration with the Prevention Coordinator and other relevant divisions in response to any new aquatic invasive species threats.

Job Responsibilities:

The Aquatic Invasive Species Management Specialist is accountable for the effective and efficient management of the Aquatic Invasive Species Prevention Program. This role supervises a team of area supervisors who oversee a significant number of seasonal staff at various watercraft inspection sites. Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating and overseeing the operations of watercraft inspection station supervisors.
  • Collaborating with human resources to ensure timely and organized completion of all necessary documentation related to hiring, disciplinary actions, and payroll.
  • Ensuring the accurate and timely completion of fleet management, credit card transactions, and travel reimbursements.
  • Working with station supervisors to address equipment needs, maintenance, and repairs effectively.
  • Managing the distribution of essential equipment for station operations, including documentation, tablets, and manuals.
  • Evaluating training initiatives for area supervisors and inspectors.
  • Assessing station operations for potential improvements.
  • Facilitating data management and the effectiveness of mobile applications.
  • Reviewing quality assurance and quality control implementations with coordinators and supervisors.
  • Supporting law enforcement efforts at inspection stations.

Physical and Environmental Considerations:

This position involves outdoor work, occasionally in adverse weather conditions. Employees may face challenging working environments requiring extended hours in the field. Travel for meetings may necessitate time away from home.

Qualifications:

The qualifications for this position typically include a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology, Fish and Wildlife Management, Aquatic Ecology, or a closely related field, along with a minimum of two years of relevant experience in aquatic invasive species management, fish and wildlife management, or watercraft inspection management. Proficiency in computer software such as Excel, MS Word, and Access is required. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Compensation: $30.01 Hourly
