Position Overview:
The successful candidate will undertake a senior role in the design of substations, including the preparation of specifications, administrative functions, or field engineering associated with designated engineering projects under the guidance of a professional engineer.
The ideal candidate will be proficient in utilizing various power system design software tools essential for executing the design and engineering tasks pertinent to electrical utility substation facilities.
The incumbent must also demonstrate a thorough understanding of both fundamental and intricate issues related to substation structures, components, cable and conduit systems, grounding systems, and shielding methodologies, terminologies, and techniques necessary for developing construction documentation for the assigned project.
Key Responsibilities:
Design engineered systems of significant size and complexity. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Oversee project construction activities to ensure adherence to plans and specifications. Act as Resident Engineer on projects of varying scales. Interpret complex plans and specifications, applying available information to meet all project design requirements. Maintain knowledge of relevant engineering and construction codes, ensuring compliance with all regulations. Prepare and/or monitor construction schedules to guarantee timely project completion. Implement and direct modifications to the work as necessitated by differing site conditions. Conduct on-site design or investigation work to validate the adequacy of methods. Review, evaluate, and approve contractor invoices. Inspect equipment intended for installation on the project and authorize payment. Compile reports and feasibility studies for management review.
- Function as a project engineer or project manager on assigned projects.
- Facilitate efficient information flow and ensure meticulous record-keeping.
- Familiarize oneself with the Client/Company's drawing system and design and construction standards, as well as applicable industry codes and practices.
- Conduct on-site design or investigation work to confirm the adequacy of contractor methods.

Position Requirements:
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems preferred) or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Professional engineering license required. Significant experience in engineering related projects.
- In-depth understanding of industry and national codes and standards, including but not limited to NESC, NFPA 70 (NEC), IEEE standards, and other relevant standards for substation design.
- Proficiency with system design software, CADD, and Microsoft Office products is essential.
- Strong analytical and management capabilities.
- Experience with ground grid design of substations.
- Familiarity with power systems software packages such as Cape, Aspen Oneliner, CDEGS, WingIS, SKM, and ETAP, along with other software packages is highly desirable.
- Willingness to travel for site surveys, project scope walks, and meetings.
