Southwest Behavioral & Health Services is in search of a Medical Director to lead our Southwest Family Medicine initiative. This role is designed as a part-time opportunity, requiring 10 to 20 hours of commitment each week.

Position Overview:

In this capacity, you will take on clinical decision-making duties related to the evaluation and management of clients with physical health issues. You will supervise primary care physicians, mid-level practitioners, and medical students, while collaborating with the Director of Nursing to oversee medical support personnel (Medical Assistants and/or RNs) in the primary care clinics.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Acting as a consultant for agency Behavioral Health Medical Providers on primary care topics, providing support via calls and emails for complex cases.
  • Delivering comprehensive healthcare services to clients, including acute care visits, chronic disease management, and preventive care.
  • Conducting diagnostic tests and screening assessments.
  • Prescribing or recommending medications and other treatment modalities such as physical therapy or inhalation therapy.
  • Educating patients and their families about preventive healthcare, medical conditions, and the use of prescribed treatments.
  • Ordering, interpreting, and evaluating diagnostic tests to identify and address patients' clinical issues and healthcare needs.
  • Documenting all clinical activities in the electronic health record on the same day of service.
  • Participating in the formulation of the integrative strategic plan, identifying needs for new programs, equipment, facilities, and major item replacements.
  • Collaborating with educational institutions to ensure compliance with contract requirements for students, residents, or interns as assigned.
  • Developing, updating, and overseeing training for new primary care providers in partnership with administrative and operational departments.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Possession of an MD or DO degree from an accredited residency training program.
  • Board eligible or certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine, with licensure from the Arizona Board of Medical Examiners and Drug Enforcement Administration.
  • Current medical license in the State of Arizona is required.
