Job Overview

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a dedicated and skilled Research Laboratory Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting research, educational, and clinical initiatives within the veterinary medicine sector. Responsibilities will include conducting biomedical research focused on viral diseases, particularly those transmitted by mosquitoes, as well as respiratory viruses. The successful applicant will be tasked with initiating and executing virology experiments and assays, which will involve techniques such as nucleic acid sequencing, cell culture, and working with laboratory animals.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct virology experiments and assays, ensuring adherence to established protocols.

- Analyze and compile data as directed by the principal investigator.

- Maintain laboratory operations, including routine duties and upkeep of equipment.

- Collaborate on multiple projects, demonstrating strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.

Required Qualifications

- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related discipline.

- Prior experience in a research laboratory environment.

- Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet applications.

- A solid understanding of molecular biology and infectious diseases.

- Strong initiative, self-motivation, and a proactive approach to work.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with virology, molecular, or cellular assays, particularly involving nucleic acids and proteins.

- Background in managing laboratory operations, including budgeting and supply ordering.

- Familiarity with laboratory experiments involving animals or sequence analyses.
