Position Overview
The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a dedicated Research Laboratory Associate to join our innovative team in the field of neuroscience. This role will involve collaboration on various research initiatives aimed at understanding neural mechanisms and their implications in cognitive functions such as attention and motivation. The primary focus is to explore how these mechanisms may be affected in neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative conditions, with the aim of identifying potential therapeutic targets.
Key Responsibilities
The selected candidate will be responsible for:
- Assisting in the execution of research projects utilizing advanced technologies for measuring and manipulating neural activity.
- Supporting laboratory upkeep, including inventory management and the care of the laboratory's rodent population.
- Engaging in independent work while maintaining direct communication with the supervising researcher.
- Contributing to the preparation of research findings for publication and assisting in the design of experimental protocols.
Qualifications Required
Candidates must possess:
- Prior experience in a biological or psychological research environment.
- Proficiency in handling rodents, including experience with breeding and sample collection for genetic analysis.
- Familiarity with standard laboratory management software, such as Excel and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications
Ideal candidates will have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience, Psychology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Training in stereotaxic surgical techniques.
- Extensive knowledge of rodent behavioral assessments and data analysis.
- A solid understanding of statistical methods and experience with software such as MATLAB.
- Background in electrophysiology or electrochemistry.
