Job Overview
A position for a laboratory research technician is currently open within the Department of Biochemistry. This role is focused on addressing fundamental inquiries related to the biology and pathogenic mechanisms of spirochetes, particularly those linked to Lyme disease and Syphilis. The responsibilities of this position will encompass both foundational research in molecular biology and microbiology, alongside supporting routine laboratory operations, which include tasks such as procurement, inventory management, and documentation of protocols.
The ideal candidate will possess prior experience in a research laboratory environment and demonstrate strong analytical and organizational capabilities. Preference will be given to individuals with expertise in 1) experimental animal models 2) molecular biology techniques and 3) microbial pathogenesis. Required Qualifications
Candidates must exhibit effective communication skills and possess strong interpersonal abilities; familiarity with basic software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, Adobe) and programming languages (R, Python, MatLab) is essential; exceptional organizational skills are required; experience in microbiology and aseptic techniques is preferred; knowledge of molecular biology techniques such as cloning and bacterial transformation is necessary; experience with laboratory animal research, including colony maintenance and infection studies, is advantageous.
Preferred Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a related discipline is preferred; experience in preparing chemical solutions, performing accurate volumetric transfers, and effective communication is desired. Additional preferred qualifications include demonstrated research experience and knowledge of maintaining a safe and orderly laboratory environment.
