About the Position
The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Research Specialist I to join our team at the Virginia Tech Autism Clinic & Center for Autism Research. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will be responsible for conducting diagnostic autism assessments, providing trainings and consultations to area educators, and conducting effectiveness research on rural capacity building through telehealth autism services.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct diagnostic autism assessments and provide written reports to families and professionals
- Develop and implement training programs for educators on autism-related topics
- Collaborate with public school staff, children, adolescents, and their families/caregivers to provide support and services
- Conduct research on rural capacity building through telehealth autism services
- Participate in research development, study design/implementation, and publication
Requirements
- Master's degree in Clinical Psychology, School Psychology, Counseling, or a related discipline
- Experience working with individuals on the autism spectrum, including those with a wide range of behavioral presentations
- Experience conducting autism assessments and writing assessment reports
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to supporting a welcoming, affirming, and inclusive climate
- Some research experience (collecting, entering, and analyzing data)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with the ADI-R, ADOS-2, cognitive and academic testing (e.g., WAIS; WISC), and diagnostic interviews (e.g., ADIS-5, K-SADS)
- License-eligible in Virginia
- Experience working in a rural community, with a variety of service providers and/or in a primary or secondary school setting
- Experience with Microsoft software, SPSS, REDCap, and other software
