Position Overview

The New York Genome Center (NYGC) is seeking a dedicated and innovative individual to join our team as a Research Scientist in Genomic Innovation. This role is designed for a postdoctoral researcher who is eager to collaborate within a vibrant team of scientists, bioengineers, and computational biologists.

The successful candidate will receive guidance from experienced mentors on projects focused on functional genomics and gene modification techniques.

Potential research initiatives may encompass Cas13-based analysis of noncoding RNAs in human neurons, in vivo CRISPR screening for immune responses and cancer characteristics, design of novel gene editing proteins, and extensive perturbation studies of enhancers and other significant noncoding genomic elements.

About Our Research Environment

The NYGC operates at the forefront of genomics, synthetic biology, and bioengineering. Our curiosity drives us to explore diverse scientific questions, and we are passionate about our mission. We are committed to developing innovative technologies that enhance our understanding of biological systems. Our research includes genome modification, high-throughput screening, differentiation of human neurons from stem cells, and identifying vulnerabilities in cancer cells using patient-derived models. Our ultimate goal is to make a meaningful impact on human health through the creation of new biological tools and groundbreaking discoveries.

Role Responsibilities

We are in search of a postdoctoral scientist who is enthusiastic about investigating the effects of human genetic diversity on gene expression and phenotypic outcomes at various biological levels.

The selected candidate will engage in projects that integrate advanced human genetics with the development of genomic technologies.

Furthermore, we anticipate that the postdoctoral scientist will take a proactive role in initiating new research projects within a collaborative team-oriented atmosphere.

To apply for this position, candidates should submit: 1) a comprehensive CV including a publication list; 2) a brief overview of current and future research interests; 3) contact information for three professional references.

Essential Qualifications

The ideal applicant will possess a PhD or MD-PhD and have prior research experience in areas such as molecular biology, biochemistry, computational biology, or functional genomics, along with first-author publications.

The candidate should demonstrate the ability to independently plan and execute research tasks and effectively communicate findings through presentations and written reports.

This position can be tailored to accommodate candidates with strong molecular biology expertise seeking to enhance their computational skills, or those with a robust background in computational genetics or genomics aiming to gain proficiency in cutting-edge experimental techniques.
