The New York Genome Center is on the lookout for a talented and driven Computational Scientist to enhance our dry lab initiatives aimed at deciphering disease mechanisms. This role focuses on the creation of integrative multi-modal data analysis tools that incorporate single cell omics data, imaging data, clinical phenotypes, variants, and genotypes.

As a Computational Scientist, you will play a pivotal role within a collaborative team dedicated to developing innovative computational methodologies and technologies. Your work will contribute significantly to our understanding of neuroimmunology, cancer immunology, and aging, facilitating the advancement of clinical therapeutic hypotheses. The main objective of this position is to identify and establish entirely new computational strategies centered on single cell genomics. We seek an independent thinker capable of devising new protocols and innovative solutions to complex challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement novel computational, machine learning, and statistical analysis techniques for the integration and analysis of large-scale scRNA-seq, CRISPR, and genotypic data utilizing cutting-edge technologies;
  • Create a community resource that provides access to collected datasets;
  • Independently plan, develop, and execute research projects with guidance from senior team members;
  • Stay informed about current scientific literature and share key insights with lab members to maintain the group’s competitive edge;
  • Collaborate closely with experimental colleagues to comprehend the nature of generated data;
  • Coordinate efforts across various organizations;
  • Contribute to manuscript preparation for publication and present findings at scientific conferences;
  • Mentor peers and students;
  • Provide training and guidance to team members as required.

Qualifications:

  • A relevant PhD in computational biology, computational neuroscience, applied mathematics, computer science, or a related field, with a strong emphasis on bioengineering and/or molecular biology.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in modern molecular biology and/or chemistry tools, particularly next-generation single cell sequencing methods.
  • Deep understanding of contemporary high-throughput molecular technologies in life sciences.
  • Expertise in large-scale data analysis and algorithm development, including machine learning and statistical methods.
  • Proficiency in programming/scripting languages such as Python, C/C++, R, or Stan.
  • Experience with analysis tools like STAR, BWA, cellRanger, or similar.
  • Ability to design and develop analytical bioinformatics approaches to extract meaningful biological insights from complex datasets.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, along with data documentation and presentation abilities.
  • Experience in writing scientific articles for publication.
  • Capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent collaborative and interpersonal skills, with a readiness to work in a dynamic team environment.

Compensation:

The anticipated salary for this position ranges from $100,000 to $105,000 annually, with a full pay range of $95,000 to $115,500. The base pay offered may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The New York Genome Center also provides a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, financial, and generous time off.
