Position Overview

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement a bioinformatics framework that utilizes shotgun metagenomic sequencing data to develop comprehensive pan-genome assemblies.
  • Investigate the microbiomes of Drosophila suzukii as a focal point of study.
  • Employ traditional microbial culturing techniques to generate independently sequenced and complete genomes of the 20 most common microbes associated with the flies.
  • Organize sequence reads against both host and microbial reference genomes.
  • Evaluate various methodologies and parameters for constructing pangenomes, assessing their quality and effectiveness.
Qualifications

Applicants must possess a recent Ph.D. in biology, microbiology, or a closely related discipline, equipping them with the essential knowledge and skills to fulfill the responsibilities of this role.

Proficiency in contemporary bioinformatics techniques related to shotgun metagenomic data, alongside a solid foundation in molecular biology, genetics, and microbiology, is highly advantageous.

Applicants must satisfy the basic qualifications set forth by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) for at least one of the scientific disciplines relevant to the role.

Educational Requirements

This position mandates a positive educational requirement. Candidates must submit academic transcripts or a detailed list of relevant college courses, including credit hours, completion dates, and grades, to validate their educational background when applying. In addition, a related Ph.D. must have been obtained within the last four years.
