Introductory Biology Professor

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Introductory Biology Teaching Professor to join our faculty at Appalachian State University. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of our progressive introductory biology program, teaching first semester courses for biology majors and non-majors, and updating laboratory curricula to reflect best practices in biology education.
Key Responsibilities- Teach introductory biology courses to students with varying levels of experience and background knowledge
- Develop and implement engaging and effective teaching methods to promote student learning and success
- Update and revise laboratory curricula to ensure alignment with current research and best practices in biology education
- Contribute to program assessment and evaluation to ensure the quality and effectiveness of our introductory biology program
- Participate in departmental and university service, including serving on committees and contributing to departmental events and activities
The Department of Biology at Appalachian State University is a community of 44 faculty members who are active in teaching and research, with a support staff of five technicians and three administrators. We strive to maintain a faculty with diverse research interests, ranging from molecules and cells to communities and landscapes. The department provides instruction in biology through classroom and laboratory interactions, undergraduate and graduate laboratory research experiences, seminars, professional development programs, and career advising through courses and faculty interactions.
