Position Overview:
MAHEC Dentistry Oral Health is seeking a licensed Oral/Maxillofacial Surgeon in North Carolina to serve as a clinical instructor for General Practice Residents and D4 scholars from the UNC Adams School of Dentistry. This role involves supervising and assisting in surgical procedures tailored to the skill levels of the learners. Surgical activities will primarily take place at our clinical site, with the possibility of additional opportunities at another location based on mutual agreement. The position may also include didactic curriculum contributions and adjunct faculty status with the UNC Adams School of Dentistry. This is a PRN role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and instruct General Practice Residents and UNC Adams School of Dentistry students during clinical activities.
  • Provide patient care on an as-needed basis.
  • Conduct patient examinations alongside learners, adhering to training standards and payer agreements.
  • Complete necessary documentation in a timely manner.
  • Consult with dental hygienists, assistants, and administrative staff as required.
  • Manage assigned worklists and documentation tasks as directed by leadership.
  • Review and approve resident and student clinical notes.
  • Assist in treatment planning and procedural execution.
  • Remain in the clinic until all patient care is concluded and patients have departed.
  • Engage in faculty meetings and maintain regular communication with faculty and leadership.

  • Moderate energy level required for lifting and carrying.
  • Occasional bending, standing, twisting, and sitting throughout the workday.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Not applicable.

Education and Experience:
  • Minimum Qualifications: Experience in General Dentistry and GPR residency programs.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Interest and experience in teaching dental residents and students.
Licensure:
  • Must possess a valid Dentistry license in North Carolina or equivalent teaching licensure.
