Position Overview:
MAHEC Dentistry Oral Health is seeking a licensed Oral/Maxillofacial Surgeon in North Carolina to serve as a clinical educator for our General Practice Residents and D4 Scholars from the UNC Adams School of Dentistry. This role involves supervising and assisting with surgical procedures tailored to the skill levels of the residents. Surgical activities will primarily take place at our clinical site, with potential for additional responsibilities at another location if mutually agreed upon. Opportunities for didactic curriculum involvement and adjunct faculty status with UNC Adams School of Dentistry are also available. This is a PRN role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and instruct General Practice Residents and students from the UNC Adams School of Dentistry.
  • Provide patient care on an as-needed basis.
  • Conduct patient examinations alongside learners, adhering to training standards and contractual obligations.
  • Complete necessary documentation.
  • Consult with dental hygienists, assistants, and administrative staff as required.
  • Manage assigned worklists and documentation tasks.
  • Review and approve resident and student clinical notes.
  • Assist in treatment planning and execution of procedures.
  • Remain in the clinic until all patient care is concluded.
  • Engage in faculty meetings and maintain regular communication with faculty and leadership.

Required Skills:
  • Computer Proficiency: Familiarity with communication tools such as Outlook and Zoom, and experience with electronic medical record systems.
  • Foreign Language: Not applicable.
Physical Requirements:
  • Light to moderate physical activity, including lifting and carrying.
  • Occasional bending, standing, and sitting.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum: Experience in General Dentistry and GPR residency programs.
  • Preferred: Interest and experience in teaching dental residents and students.
Licensure:
  • Must hold a valid Dentistry license in North Carolina or a Teaching/Instructors Licensure in Dentistry in North Carolina.
