Position Overview
The Nursing Aide in Long-Term Care is tasked with delivering direct support to residents, executing designated nursing tasks, and ensuring a hygienic and secure environment under the guidance of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducts thorough rounds at the start of each shift with outgoing staff to verify resident safety and address any immediate care needs. Rounds are to be performed at least every two hours or more frequently as required throughout the shift.
- Assists residents with daily living activities while upholding their privacy, including personal hygiene, grooming, and ensuring the use of prescribed assistive devices.
- Encourages residents to achieve their highest level of physical independence by providing necessary support for mobility, transfers, and toileting, adhering to safety protocols.
- Records weight measurements as directed by nursing staff.
- Maintains cleanliness and comfort for all residents, ensuring proper toileting methods are followed and that all necessary documentation is completed accurately and promptly.
- Documents all relevant resident information in the required systems and ensures accurate coding of resident capabilities and dietary intake.
- Reports any significant changes in resident conditions to nursing staff through appropriate channels.
- Positions and repositions residents who are bedbound or in wheelchairs to promote comfort and prevent complications.
- Changes bed linens regularly and provides fresh drinking water to residents.
- Prepares residents for mealtime, ensuring they are comfortable and have the necessary assistance during meals.
- Facilitates resident participation in activities and assists with transitions between rooms or programs.
- Provides compassionate care to residents at the end of life and assists with post-mortem care as needed.
- Adheres to established service standards and responds promptly to resident requests for assistance.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Completion of training at an accredited nursing assistant program is mandatory.
- Certification as a Nursing Assistant through Prometric is required upon hire.
Physical Requirements
- Occasional lifting and carrying of items up to 10 lbs.
- Frequent sitting with occasional standing and walking.
- Ability to perform tasks that may require bending, reaching, and handling.
