The Central Connecticut Coast YMCA is seeking a dedicated and caring individual to join our School Age Child Care team as an Assistant Child Care Teacher. In this role, you will provide direct supervision and leadership to a group of children, promoting their self-concepts, independence, and individuality.
Key Responsibilities- Model the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility with members, colleagues, guests, volunteers, and vendors.
- Assist in planning and implementing program activities, ensuring they align with YMCA guidelines and support program participants in achieving their goals.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, staff, program participants, and parents, responding to their needs and concerns.
- Maintain a safe and clean environment, ensuring program participants, areas, and equipment are well-maintained.
- Be aware of surroundings, remain alert, and actively participate in all program activities.
- Know and respond to emergency procedures, following YMCA policies and procedures.
- Enforce all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including those related to child abuse prevention and the rule of three.
- Represent the YMCA and its programs, fostering loyalty among those we serve.
- Follow Child Care procedures and guidelines, including those related to health and safety, supervision, discipline, and staff expectations.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Experience working with children is preferred.
- Must have documentation of a physical examination and a TB Tine Test, to be repeated every two years.
- Must submit Office of Early Childhood Background Check and fingerprinting forms within 30 days of hire.
- Demonstrated ability to teach and assist in teaching activities.
- Good role model, with integrity and adaptability.
- Remains calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others.
- Must be observant, safety-conscious, and able to react calmly and quickly in an emergency.
- Connecticut Child Care CPR/First aid certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire and maintained.
- Administration of Medications certification is preferred.
