Job Summary

Memorial Hermann Health System is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Laboratory Scientist to join our team in Houston, Texas.

Job Description

We are looking for a talented and dedicated individual to perform various laboratory tests and procedures as assigned. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Microbiology and Core Lab, with experience in setting up and operating laboratory equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform and document test results, quality control, maintenance procedures, and associated corrective actions according to policy and procedure.
  • Manage and perform other aspects of daily lab operations, including collections, sample processing, results reporting and distribution, personnel direction, and clerical duties as required to maintain efficient workflow.
  • Interact with hospital personnel, volunteers, physicians, and patients to ensure smooth specimen and order processing, and to report results in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Comply with policies, procedures, and initiatives of laboratory services, the hospital, and the system, including standards and conditions set forth by various governmental and accrediting agencies.
  • Perform duties in a manner that promotes quality patient care and customer service, while promoting safety, cost efficiency, and a commitment to the PI process.
  • Ensure safe care to patients, staff, and visitors, and adhere to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications.
  • Promote individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory and continuing education and skills competency, and support department-based goals that contribute to the success of the organization.
  • Demonstrate commitment to caring for every member of our community by creating compassionate and personalized experiences, and model Memorial Hermann's service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized, and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in biological science (equivalency required for foreign education).
  • Medical Technologist (ASCP) or Medical Technologist (AMT) certification, or Certified MLS (ASCP or ASCP-International), Certified CLS (ASCP), or Certified MLS (ASCP or ASCP-International) CM or ASCP certification eligible.
  • Successful completion of a NAACLS-accredited MLS program within the last 5 years, or MLT (ASCP) certification and 2 years of full-time acceptable laboratory experience in Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Immunology, and Urinalysis/Body Fluids in the U.S., Canada, or an accredited laboratory within the last 4 years, or CLA (ASCP) certification and a bachelor's degree in a biological science with 4 years of full-time acceptable experience in Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Immunology, and Urinalysis/Body Fluids in the U.S., Canada, or an accredited laboratory within the last 8 years, or 5 years of full-time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Immunology, and Urinalysis/Body Fluids in the U.S., Canada, or an accredited laboratory within the last 10 years.
