Job Summary

**Job Title:** Medical Technologist - Laboratory Specialist

**Job Summary:** We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Technologist - Laboratory Specialist to join our team at Memorial Hermann Health System. As a Medical Technologist - Laboratory Specialist, you will be responsible for performing various laboratory tests and procedures, ensuring accurate and timely results, and maintaining a high level of quality and safety in the laboratory.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform and document test results, quality control, maintenance procedures, and associated corrective actions according to policy and procedure.
  • Manage and perform other aspects of daily lab operations, including collections, sample processing, results reporting and distribution, personnel direction, and clerical duties as required to maintain efficient workflow.
  • Interact with hospital personnel, volunteers, physicians, and patients to ensure smooth specimen and order processing, and to report results in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Comply with policies, procedures, and initiatives of laboratory services, the hospital, and the system, and understand and communicate standards and conditions set forth by various governmental and accrediting agencies.
  • Perform duties in a manner that promotes quality patient care and customer service, while promoting safety, cost efficiency, and a commitment to the PI process.
  • Ensure safe care to patients, staff, and visitors, and adhere to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications.
  • Promote individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory and continuing education and skills competency, and support department-based goals that contribute to the success of the organization.
  • Demonstrate commitment to caring for every member of our community by creating compassionate and personalized experiences, and model Memorial Hermann's service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized, and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Biological Science (equivalency required for foreign education).
  • Medical Technologist (ASCP) or Medical Technologist (AMT) certification, or Certified MLS (ASCP or ASCP-International), Certified CLS (ASCP), or Certified MLS (ASCP or ASCP-International) CM or ASCP Certification eligible.
  • Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited MLS program within the last 5 years, or MLT (ASCP) certification and two years of full-time acceptable laboratory experience in Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Immunology, and Urinalysis/Body Fluids in the U.S., Canada, or an accredited laboratory within the last four years, or CLA (ASCP) certification and a bachelor's degree in a biological science and four years of full-time acceptable experience in Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Immunology, and Urinalysis/Body Fluids in the U.S., Canada, or an accredited laboratory within the last eight years, or five years of full-time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Immunology, and Urinalysis/Body Fluids in the U.S., Canada, or an accredited laboratory within the last ten years.
