The Utility Services Group (USG) operates within the Power Delivery Segment, specializing in electrical distribution, substations, water systems, transmission, and natural gas distribution networks.

Role Summary

The Overhead Electrical Installation Supervisor is responsible for guiding the crew in executing daily assignments related to the installation of overhead electrical lines, ensuring safety protocols are adhered to, monitoring employee work hours, conducting daily and weekly safety briefings, and coordinating project utility location calls. This role supervises the Line team and collaborates with personnel from various departments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acquire all necessary materials for projects and ensure that all permits and licenses are secured.
  • Oversee project-related work, taking full accountability for quality and timely completion.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and procedures as dictated by MasTec or the client, whichever is more stringent.
  • Conduct daily toolbox discussions and weekly safety evaluations.
  • Communicate safety briefing information effectively to the team.
  • Execute aerial tasks such as new cable installations, pole transfers, strand building, cable hanging, and lashing, only when critical work does not require the Foreman as a Qualified Observer.
  • Install overhead electrical cables.
  • Connect wires and cables to terminals and manage various hardware attachments to wires, cables, buildings, or poles.
  • Coordinate and supervise daily tasks for crew members related to excavation and installation activities.
  • Engage in construction activities, including digging, placing cables, air pipes, and inner duct work within various conduit systems and open excavations.
  • Climb utility poles and/or operate aerial lift trucks to position cables according to system specifications.
  • Transport and operate equipment to and from job sites to assist crews in completing tasks.
  • Train new employees and apprentices in the trade.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.
  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Possession of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is mandatory.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8 or more years of experience, with significant supervisory and training experience in skilled labor.
  • OSHA 20 Certification.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position operates in a field environment and routinely requires extended periods of physical activity, including bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and lifting. Employees may work in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.

The physical demands outlined here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. This position is physically active, requiring the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Employees must have clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and spatial relationships. Precise hand-eye coordination and the ability to identify and distinguish colors are essential.
