Position Overview

The Senior Welding Engineer will oversee the technical development and execution of all welding activities within the organization. Responsibilities include formulating and enforcing welding procedures, ensuring adherence to industry standards and regulations, conducting quality assurance inspections, and offering technical guidance and support to both the welding and engineering teams. The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in welding methodologies, materials, and equipment, along with exceptional problem-solving and communication abilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Formulate and enforce welding procedures and specifications in compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the welding team, including resolving welding challenges and advising on welding techniques and best practices.
  • Collaborate with various departments, such as design, supply chain, and project management, to ensure welding requirements are fulfilled.
  • Train and mentor welding technicians and operators on proper welding methods, safety protocols, and equipment usage.
  • Conduct quality assurance inspections to verify that welds meet established standards and specifications.
  • Develop and maintain welding documentation, including weld maps, inspection reports, and welder qualifications.
  • Monitor and assess welding equipment and tools, recommending upgrades or replacements as necessary.
  • Research and implement the most effective welding techniques, materials, and equipment for specific projects.

Qualifications

  • Comprehensive knowledge of welding processes, techniques, materials, and equipment.
  • Strong understanding of industry standards and regulations related to welding, such as AWS D1.1 and ASME Section IX.
  • Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and welding symbols.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the capability to troubleshoot welding issues and propose effective solutions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations pertinent to welding operations.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in welding engineering or a similar role.

Certifications

  • Certification as a Welding Engineer (CWE) or Welding Inspector (CWI) is preferred.

Work Environment

  • Office and shop environment.

Travel Requirements

  • Up to 10% travel may be required.
