Position Summary:

The individual in this position will be responsible for the development, testing, and optimization of PLC, HMI, vision, and robotic assembly systems, as well as test and material handling systems. The primary goal is to enhance metrics related to Safety, Quality, Cost, and Customer Responsiveness. As a medical manufacturing entity, we produce assemblies and molded components utilizing various equipment, all adhering to ISO13485 and GMP standards. The Controls Engineer will collaborate closely with Production, Planning, and Quality Assurance teams to refine existing processes and ensure the seamless introduction of new processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Design or assist in specifying and integrating Electrical, Pneumatic, and Hydraulic Control Systems Hardware for automated assembly, testing, and material handling systems.
  2. Lead control initiatives towards successful project execution, adhering to budgetary and scheduling constraints.
  3. Develop control software for PLCs, PCs, industrial HMIs, stepper motors, servo motor controls, and industrial testing systems.
  4. Implement Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles, including diagnostics for operational personnel.
  5. Oversee the integration and programming of robotic and vision systems.
  6. Contribute to training programs for team members.
  7. Collaborate effectively with other engineering team members and cross-departmental personnel.
  8. Ensure all systems are designed in compliance with relevant codes, regulations, and standards.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  9. Experience in developing manufacturing processes for medical devices, with preferred expertise in injection molding, small part assembly, welding, robotics, automation, vision systems, and pad printing.
  10. Capability to create electrical schematics.
  11. In-depth knowledge of best practices and contemporary automation hardware.
  12. Engagement in meetings focused on modeling and simulation of various options prior to specification decisions.
  13. Participation in the development of Statements of Work for new projects.
  14. A willingness and eagerness to learn new skills, embrace challenges, and advance into leadership roles.
  15. Fulfillment of additional tasks as required.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Controls.

A minimum of three years of experience in a manufacturing environment.

Formal training in robotics, preferably with Fanuc systems.

Formal training in vision system integration.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment:

Must be capable of lifting up to 15 pounds as needed.

Work is conducted in a manufacturing environment focused on plastic-based medical devices, necessitating the use of PPE and GMP gowning.
