Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Kuiper Government Solutions team at Amazon. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and developing innovative space-based electro-mechanical systems, with a focus on payload architecture and integration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform mechanical and opto-mechanical design and layout trade studies for satellite payloads, contributing to overall system architecture and collaborating with cross-discipline teams.
  • Conduct or oversee static, dynamic, and modal structural analysis via finite element methods to support design work and demonstrate technical solutions meet customer needs.
  • Facilitate cost trades on multiple parallel configurations for cost/manufacturability vs design uncertainty.
  • Generate detailed designs via CAD systems and engineering drawings with appropriate geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Deliver well-written documentation, reports, and presentations for technical design reviews and proposal efforts.
  • Design and support test campaigns for space hardware.
  • Interact directly with customers to understand technical requirements and translate them into robust solutions backed by data and analysis.
Requirements
  • BSME from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Preferred qualifications include a Master's degree in mechanical engineering, optical engineering, or equivalent, and 5+ years of experience designing space-based electro-mechanical systems and opto-mechanical systems.
  • Experience with NX CAD for model and drawing creation is also preferred.
