Job Summary

This position supports the Surface Water Quality Bureau by evaluating compliance with state and federal environmental laws and regulations. The ideal candidate will have experience in applying environmental regulations, providing compliance assistance to regulated facilities, and enforcing permit requirements and water quality regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Examine discharge monitoring report (DMR) data to determine a facility's compliance with permit effluent limits and reporting requirements
  • Conduct in-person site visits, field investigations, and inspections related to surface water discharges
  • Collect accurate and detailed information and evidence to assist in enforcement of federal and state surface water laws, regulations, and standards
  • Maintain permitting and compliance data management systems, both paper and electronic
  • Analyze data and information submitted with permit applications/renewals or Notices of Intent (NOI) to discharge
  • Model stream flow, analyze water quality data, and perform other related studies to evaluate a discharge's impact on surface water quality
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture Science, Hydrology, Geology, Environmental Science, Water Resources, Watershed Management, Physics, Natural Science, Physical Science, Life Science, Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Forestry/Forest Science, Conservation Science, Wildlife Science Emergency Management or Engineering
  • Two (2) years of relevant experience
Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Must be able to climb stairs and ladders. Must be able to lift 25 pounds. In-state and out-of-state travel is required (up to 25%). Normal work schedule is 40 hours, Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm.
