Job Summary

This position is responsible for managing all formal enforcement actions for the Air Quality Bureau, including issuing Notices of Violation, calculating penalties, and negotiating settlements. The ideal candidate will have experience in program and project management, analytical skills, and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise staff who work according to the Bureau's Civil Penalty Policy with guidance from the Compliance and Enforcement Division
  • Direct the program to obtain results that deter noncompliance in the industry and level the playing field for companies that do comply with environmental laws, regulations, and permit conditions
  • Serve as a regulatory resource and work with legal counsel to negotiate and settle cases
  • Manage case loads, track progress, and coach enforcement specialists
  • Participate in settlement proceedings to resolve cases and keep up the enforcement presence of the Department
  • Develop, review, and finalize a variety of legal and technical documents to pursue enforcement cases
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Animal Science, Natural Science, Biological Science, Physical Science, and/or Chemistry
  • Five (5) years of work experience in environmental science, animal science, natural sciences, biological science, physical science, and/or chemistry

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending, and reaching may be required. Must be able to infrequently climb stairs and ladders. Occasional travel in or out of state will be required to attend training sessions, meetings, conferences, or hearings.
