The R&D Manager is a key member of the Abbott Laboratories team, responsible for leading the development of innovative medical devices in the Vascular Division. This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a strong technical background, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and participate in the design and development of medical devices, including conceptualization, prototyping, and testing.
  • Oversee and conduct analyses to develop design specifications and performance requirements.
  • Provide technical information concerning manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, properties, and process engineering planning.
  • Guide direct reports to select and use techniques to solve problems and make sound design recommendations.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to other engineers and technicians.
  • Supervise other engineers and technicians performing tasks such as empirical and experimental analysis, conceptualization of new devices, and project planning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in engineering-related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in R&D engineering and related functions.
  • Experience designing and testing medical devices, preferably interventional cardiology devices.
  • Experience with a variety of manufacturing processes and designing for manufacturability.
  • Project leadership and management skills.
  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team in a fast-paced changing environment.
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to set goals and provide positive and constructive feedback respectfully to build positive relationships and improve business results.
  • Strong verbal and written communications with the ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.
  • Ability to travel approximately 15% with possibility for international travel.
