About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly-qualified Full Time Social Emotional Learning Teacher to join our team at Wayne County Schools Employment Network. As a Social Emotional Learning Teacher, you will play a critical role in providing a superior education for all students in our upcoming school year.

Responsibilities
  • Lesson Planning and Delivery: Prepare and deliver lesson plans that cater to the diverse needs of students, with the ability to modify accordingly during the school year.
  • Differentiated Instruction: Provide academic and social-emotional learning instruction throughout the school day, giving students the opportunity to learn and practice SEL skills along with academics.
  • Social-Emotional Learning Instruction: Directly teach social and emotional skills, emotion regulation strategies, and conflict resolution skills during class.
  • Enrichment Teacher: Serve as an Enrichment Teacher focused on helping scholars develop and explore social and emotional skills, identity, and growth mindset.
  • SEL Curriculum Implementation: Implement and augment SEL curriculum as a separate course, similar to art, music, or P.E.
  • Student Support: Support students in developing systems and teams around school climate, teaching all students social & emotional competencies, and connecting students to appropriate interventions.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development.
  • Research-Based Practices: Utilize research-based best practices in daily planning and classroom instruction.
  • Classroom Management: Manage student behavior in the classroom.
  • Positive Classroom Environment: Create a positive classroom environment for students to learn in.
  • Curriculum Implementation: Utilize school-approved curricula that reflects the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students.
  • School-Wide Culture: Implement school-wide culture expectations and norms.
  • Communication: Communicate and meet with families regarding the academic and social-emotional growth of their child.
  • Technology Integration: Incorporate technology skills into daily classroom practice to support learning.
  • Non-Instructional Activities: Participate in the planning and implementation of non-instructional activities, as needed.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues.
Requirements
  • Teaching License: Active and current state teaching license holder in appropriate content area.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in education or related field.
  • Comfort Level: High level of comfort working in a growth-focused coaching environment based on frequent observations, debriefs, action planning, and progress monitoring.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confidentiality: Ability to properly manage confidential information.
  • Supervision: Able to supervise students of various ages in different school settings (playground, cafeteria, etc.).
  • Criminal Background Check: Ability to pass federal and state criminal background checks.
  • Urban Experience: Experience working within an urban environment.
