About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly-qualified Full Time Social Emotional Learning Teacher to join our team at Wayne County Schools Employment Network. As a Social Emotional Learning Teacher, you will play a critical role in providing a superior education for all students in our upcoming school year.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Lesson Plans: Prepare and deliver lesson plans that cater to the diverse needs of all students, with the ability to modify accordingly during the school year.
  • Differentiate Instruction: Provide academic and social-emotional learning instruction throughout the school day, giving students the opportunity to learn and practice SEL skills along with academics.
  • Teach Social and Emotional Skills: Directly teach social and emotional skills, emotion regulation strategies, and conflict resolution skills during class.
  • Enrichment Teacher: Serve as an Enrichment Teacher focused on helping scholars develop and explore social and emotional skills, identity, and growth mindset.
  • Implement SEL Curriculum: Implement and augment SEL curriculum as a separate course, similar to art, music, or P.E.
  • Support Student Development: Support students in developing systems and teams around school climate, teaching all students social & emotional competencies, and connecting students to appropriate interventions.
  • Record Student Progress: Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development.
  • Utilize Research-Based Practices: Utilize research-based best practices in daily planning and classroom instruction.
  • Manage Student Behavior: Manage student behavior in the classroom.
  • Create a Positive Classroom Environment: Create a positive classroom environment for students to learn in.
  • Utilize School-Approved Curricula: Utilize school-approved curricula that reflects the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students.
  • Implement School-Wide Culture Expectations: Implement school-wide culture expectations and norms.
  • Communicate with Families: Communicate and meet with families regarding the academic and social-emotional growth of their child.
  • Integrate Technology: Incorporate technology skills into daily classroom practice to support learning.
  • Participate in Non-Instructional Activities: Participate in the planning and implementation of non-instructional activities, as needed.
  • Collaborate with Colleagues: Collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues.
About You
  • Active Teaching License: Hold an active and current state teaching license in the appropriate content area.
  • Education Background: Possess a Bachelor's degree in education or a related field.
  • Comfort with Coaching: Have a high level of comfort working in a growth-focused coaching environment based on frequent observations, debriefs, action planning, and progress monitoring.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confidentiality: Be able to properly manage confidential information.
  • Supervision Experience: Be able to supervise students of various ages in different school settings.
  • Criminal Background Check: Be able to pass federal and state criminal background checks.
  • Urban Environment Experience: Have experience working within an urban environment.
