Job Summary:

The primary role of the Career Navigator is to assist clients with identifying and creating a career pathway to move towards self-sufficiency. This involves providing personalized career guidance, support, and resources to help clients achieve their employment and career goals.

Essential Functions:

  • Act as the primary liaison between clients, social workers, and employers.

  • Instruct career development classes and workshops.

  • Conduct one-on-one career development coaching sessions with clients.

  • Assist clients in setting and achieving academic and employment goals.

  • Help clients with career exploration and identifying new career opportunities by matching their interests, skills, and personality traits with appropriate jobs.

  • Register clients for classes, conduct entrance suitability interviews, and administer placement exams.

  • Follow up with clients regarding progress towards goals, including attendance, scheduling of classes, and addressing books and equipment needs.

  • Provide support with resume writing, job soft skills, mentoring, and interview preparation.

  • Conduct quarterly reviews to assess client progress towards employment goals.

  • Update the database related to employment, education, and barrier resolution.

  • Assist clients in alleviating barriers, including transportation and childcare.

  • Collaborate with partner organizations to secure supportive services.

  • Arrange field trips to explore college and career options.

  • Organize enrichment workshops to develop soft skills.

  • Attend Career Navigator training and professional development sessions.

  • Assist the Workforce Prep Coordinator as needed.

Job Specifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree a must

  • Bilingual in Arabic highly desirable

  • Minimum 3 years experience working with underserved populations

  • Knowledge of Adult Learners, especially ESL students

  • Strong background in serving a population with multiple barriers

  • Ability to work with a diverse group of clients at different academic and employability skill levels.

  • Ability to develop creative methods to help clients achieve their goals

  • Ability to create client centered SMART goals

  • Ability to organize data to produce reports

  • Ability to make decisions concerning client employability, and create individualized career plans.

  • Ability to use Google Suite

  • Willingness to learn and implement new and innovative approaches to employment

  • Ability to express self clearly and concisely both orally and in writing

  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Energetic, hard-working and flexible

  • Experience working in community based organizations a plus

  • Passion for working with a culturally diverse and low-income population and ability to act with awareness and sensitivity to cultural and ethnic differences
