Position Summary:

Personal Care Assistants offer vital support to individuals in their residences and communities who require help with daily living activities due to aging, illness, disability, or other conditions. This role encompasses a variety of tasks including light housekeeping, meal preparation, transportation, companionship, and guidance on nutrition and household management. Personal Care Assistants are dedicated to delivering services with compassion and respect, adhering to the established policies and standards of the agency.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide emotional support and companionship to clients.
  • Engage in conversations, share experiences, and participate in recreational activities.
  • Facilitate communication between clients and their family or friends.
  • Assist clients with transportation to appointments and errands.
  • Accompany clients to social or recreational events.
  • Help organize outings and visits.
  • Manage correspondence and organize mail.
  • Plan and accompany clients on trips.
  • Support clients with meal planning and preparation.
  • Perform light cleaning and housekeeping duties.
  • Contribute to the Care Team by providing feedback and suggestions.
  • Ensure services are delivered in line with agency policies and industry standards.
  • Monitor and manage supplies and resources.
  • Evaluate service effectiveness and recommend improvements.
  • Follow the established care plan for each client.
  • Assist with client mobility as needed, ensuring safety protocols are followed.
  • Complete assigned tasks from the Supervisor.
  • Observe and report on client well-being to the Supervisor.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily activities and service hours.
  • Foster positive working relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Make informed decisions and solve problems effectively.
  • Assist with pet care as required.
  • Communicate effectively with Supervisors and team members.
  • Participate in training sessions and team meetings.

Essential Knowledge:

  • Understanding of home management practices.
  • Familiarity with client service principles and quality standards.
  • Proficiency in the English language.
  • Knowledge of first aid and CPR techniques.
  • Experience with clerical tasks such as record-keeping.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Capability to operate a vehicle safely.

Qualifications:

  • Certification as a caregiver.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Appropriate vehicle insurance.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Negative TB test result.
  • Fingerprint clearance.

Experience:

  • Relevant experience may be required.
  • Understanding of diverse social and cultural backgrounds is beneficial.
