Job Summary

The University of Colorado Boulder is seeking a skilled Building Mechanic to join its Facilities Services team. As a second shift Building Mechanic, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing various building and mechanical systems, including plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.

This is a multiple trades focused position that requires a high level of technical expertise and problem-solving skills. You will work independently and as part of a team to ensure that all aspects of the university's facilities are in good working order.

The anticipated schedule for this shift is 2:30pm - 12:30am, either Sunday - Wednesday, or Wednesday - Saturday. You will be required to work on-call during evenings and weekends, and on emergency on-call basis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carpentry/General Building Maintenance: Repair doors, door jambs, windows, cabinets, and countertops. Hang new doors, including outside, security, and closet doors, and install all affiliated hardware.
  • Plumbing: Repair/replace garbage disposals, drain wastes, and p-traps. Unplug tubs, toilets, sinks, garbage disposals, floor drains, and main lines using both hand and power auger.
  • Electrical: Analyze and make repairs on electric appliances, including installation and rewiring of new burners, controls, and burner elements.
  • HVAC: Analyze, calibrate, and make repairs to malfunctioning furnaces, fan coil units, air handlers, exhaust fans, and boilers.
Requirements
  • Two years of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.
  • A combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to two (2) years.
  • Ability to deliver excellent customer service.
  • Understanding of what it means to work in a diverse, multicultural environment.
  • Patience and active listening skills.

This is a full-time position with a salary of $55,000 annually. Shift differential is available, as follows: Weekend shift-differential is 20%. Second shift differential Monday through Thursday is 7.5%.
