Position Summary

The Stage Management Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all aspects of stage management for performances at the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra (MSO) and associated events. Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, this role is crucial in ensuring smooth production logistics for rehearsals and performances, as well as providing support for various events at the venue.

Key Responsibilities

Production Management Duties
  • Act as the primary stage manager for orchestra-related services, including tours and concerts.
  • Plan and execute the setup of technical elements in collaboration with the Production Manager.
  • Coordinate logistics for all MSO concerts and events, ensuring all equipment and stage setups are in place.
  • Ensure safety and readiness of all stage areas before performances, addressing any technical issues promptly.
  • Deliver exceptional service to musicians, conductors, and guest artists, fostering a professional backstage environment.
  • Maintain and manage stage equipment, including performing basic maintenance and organization of storage areas.
  • Assist with technical elements such as lighting and sound for various performances.
  • Collaborate with MSO staff on production needs for different concert types.
  • Advance production requirements with artists and vendors as necessary.
  • Work within the framework of the musicians' Collective Bargaining Agreement, exercising diplomacy in all interactions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Maintain production schedules and documentation in the organization's digital systems.
  • Assess the need for additional labor and maintain a list of qualified personnel.
  • Assist in the preparation and distribution of necessary production documents.
Supervisory Role
Oversee outside labor personnel and service providers.

Qualifications

To excel in this role, candidates should possess a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in technical theatrical arts or a related field, along with a minimum of three years of stage management experience in a professional setting. Familiarity with stage equipment and technology is essential, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.

Skills Required

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary. The ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of individuals, manage multiple projects, and demonstrate strong judgment in a fast-paced environment is crucial. Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high professional standards are vital for success in this position.

Physical Requirements

This role requires the ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and moving items up to 50 lbs, as well as the capacity to navigate production spaces efficiently.
