Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled Food Safety Quality Assurance Manager to lead our operations at the Concord, NC facility. This role is pivotal in steering the local team towards the effective implementation of our Quality and Food Safety Policies, as well as our Quality Systems. The successful candidate will identify and assess opportunities for enhancing Quality and Food Safety across all products and processes, driving measurable improvements through Quality Improvement and continuous enhancement methodologies.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Demonstrate expertise in FSQA programs, including BRC systems, HACCP, sanitation protocols, pest management, good manufacturing practices, foreign material control, customer complaint resolution, deviation investigations, root-cause analysis, traceability, internal audits, training, and food defense, ensuring compliance with company, customer, and USDA/FDA regulations.
  2. Maintain the safety, legality, and quality of food products and the associated manufacturing processes.
  3. Lead investigations into complaints and internal manufacturing issues related to raw processing, ready-to-eat (RTE) processes, and warehousing, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions.
  4. Engage in daily food evaluations to identify potential defects and guide improvement initiatives.
  5. Analyze data and collaborate with technicians, QA, and operations management to address concerns while adhering to regulatory standards and company policies.
  6. Implement and enforce compliance with Product Specifications, Food Safety programs, and manage product holds and releases.
  7. Coordinate with distribution locations to assess product risks and determine appropriate actions in response to quality or food safety deviations.
  8. Work collaboratively with all facility stakeholders to rectify quality and food safety deviations and ensure adherence to USDA regulations.
  9. Oversee the QA hold process, ensuring it is reported daily and executed in conjunction with cross-functional teams.
  10. Manage pre-operational checks and environmental monitoring programs, implementing improvements based on findings.
  11. Identify opportunities for process enhancements within the scope of responsibilities and collaborate on solutions.
  12. Support QA managers and shift supervisors in product assessments and evaluations, while assisting with 2nd and 3rd party audits.
  13. Assist shift supervisors with daily operations, team management, and scheduling to ensure consistent management presence in the facility.
Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Animal Science, Poultry Science, Operations Management, Biology, or Chemistry is preferred.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in the food industry, particularly in cooked and RTE USDA-regulated operations.
  • HACCP certification and a solid understanding of Food Safety, especially in a Ready-To-Eat context.
  • Training in GFSI (SQF and/or BRC) and PCQI is preferred.
  • Experience with food safety plant audits.
  • Knowledge of HACCP, USDA regulations, GMPs, Quality Assurance, Food Microbiology, environmental testing, and sanitation practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Flexibility in scheduling, with the ability to cover various shifts and work weekends as needed.
Working Conditions

This position is primarily sedentary but may require occasional movement between offices or buildings. In a plant environment, exposure to wet and moist floors, varying temperatures, and noise levels is expected. Protective and safety equipment must be worn as required by company policies.
