Position Summary

We are seeking a seasoned leader in Food Safety and Quality Assurance to manage our facility operations in Concord, NC. This role is pivotal in steering the local team towards the effective execution of our Quality and Food Safety Policies and Systems. The successful candidate will pinpoint and explore all opportunities related to Quality and Food Safety across our product lines, projects, and processes, driving measurable enhancements through Quality Improvement and continuous improvement methodologies.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Demonstrate expertise in FSQA programs, including BRC systems, HACCP, sanitation, pest management, good manufacturing practices, foreign material control, customer complaint handling, deviation investigations, root-cause analysis, traceability, internal audits, training, and food defense, ensuring compliance with company, customer, and USDA/FDA regulations.
  2. Maintain the safety, legality, and quality of food products and the associated manufacturing processes.
  3. Lead investigations into complaints and internal manufacturing issues, determining root causes and advising on corrective actions.
  4. Engage in daily food evaluations to detect potential defects and guide improvements.
  5. Analyze data and collaborate with technicians, QA, and operations management to address concerns while adhering to regulatory standards and company policies.
  6. Implement and enforce compliance with Product Specifications, Food Safety programs, and product hold and release protocols.
  7. Initiate hard holds at distribution points, assessing risks and determining product disposition in cases of quality or food safety deviations.
  8. Work closely with all facility stakeholders to rectify quality and food safety issues, including process violations and USDA non-compliance reports.
  9. Ensure daily reporting and execution of the QA hold process in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  10. Oversee documentation, direct observations, and pre-shipment record reviews efficiently within the next production cycle.
  11. Coordinate pre-operational checks and environmental monitoring programs, implementing improvements based on findings.
  12. Identify opportunities for process enhancements within the scope of responsibilities and collaborate on solutions.
  13. Support QA managers and shift supervisors in product assessments and evaluations, collaborating with the VP of FSQA for external audits.
  14. Assist shift supervisors with daily operations, team management, and scheduling to ensure consistent management presence in the facility.
Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Animal Science, Poultry Science, Operations Management, Biology, or Chemistry is preferred.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in the food industry, particularly in USDA-regulated cooked and ready-to-eat operations.
  • HACCP certification and knowledge of Food Safety principles, especially in Ready-To-Eat processes.
  • Training in GFSI (SQF and/or BRC) and PCQI is preferred.
  • Experience with food safety audits in a plant setting.
  • Knowledge of HACCP, USDA regulations, GMPs, Quality Assurance, Food Microbiology, environmental testing, and sanitation.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft software applications.
  • Flexibility in scheduling to accommodate varying shifts and weekend work as required by plant operations and QA management.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This position is primarily sedentary but may involve occasional movement between offices or buildings. The role may require the handling of light equipment or supplies and accessing files and materials.

In a plant environment, exposure may include wet and moist floors with metal and plastic grating surfaces, temperatures ranging from 28 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with high humidity, and noise levels from 50 to 110 decibels.

Protective and safety equipment must be worn as directed by the company, and the role may involve climbing ladders.
