Position Summary
The Instrumentation Mechanical Design Engineer will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, engaging in diverse engineering tasks related to the planning, design, installation, and integration of airborne data acquisition systems within the Instrumentation Design section.

Key Responsibilities
As an Instrumentation Mechanical Design Engineer, your primary responsibilities will include:
  • Leading or contributing as a team member on complex mechanical engineering projects in a dynamic prototyping environment.
  • Independently executing a variety of design, development, analysis, or review tasks while adhering to established project timelines.
  • Completing design specifications, analyses, and reviews for aircraft instrumentation.
  • Creating detailed design specifications for airborne data acquisition instrumentation.
  • Collaborating with engineering, logistics, financial, and program management teams to define system specifications and requirements.
  • Ensuring compliance with engineering documentation, design standards, and airworthiness procedures.
  • Conducting mechanical stress, fluid, and thermal analyses for airborne instrumentation.
  • Supporting the development of technical proposals and providing insights on the technical content and scope of work.
  • Interfacing directly with customers throughout the requirements development, design, and testing phases.
  • Acting as a liaison during design reviews and technical meetings to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Conducting site visits to support aircraft modifications and system testing efforts.
  • Performing additional job-related duties as necessary.

Qualifications
To be considered for this position, candidates should possess:
  • Proficiency in SOLIDWORKS, ANSYS, or similar digital engineering software.
  • Working knowledge of sheet metal fabrication and machining processes.
  • Ability to interpret electrical diagrams and mechanical schematics, along with experience in Finite Element Analysis.
  • Experience with aircraft instrumentation, particularly in avionics or data acquisition.
  • Familiarity with IRIG 106 Telemetry Standards.

Education and Experience
A Bachelor of Science in engineering from an ABET-accredited institution and a minimum of four years of relevant engineering experience, or a Master of Science in engineering with two years of experience, or a doctorate in engineering is required.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship.

Compensation
The anticipated salary range for this role is between $92,040 and $146,653 annually, reflecting the responsibilities of the position, the candidate's experience, education, skills, and market considerations.

This position is primarily office-based, with standard working conditions. Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds may be required, along with routine travel to remote work locations.
