Position Overview: We are seeking a seasoned software engineer to propel the development of our innovative tissue processing and analytical instruments. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in designing and developing control and sensing software for diagnostic devices or medical robotics, guiding projects from initial concept through to market launch. Familiarity with computer vision and backend systems is advantageous but not mandatory. This role is based at our San Mateo office.

Key Responsibilities:

● Design, develop, and implement control and sensing software for Ruby's tissue processing and analytical instruments

● Collaborate closely with systems and mechanical engineering teams to select and architect electrical control components, motors, sensors, and other hardware

● Produce clean, maintainable code while documenting software architectures and configurations

● Create software requirements, design documents, and testing protocols in alignment with Ruby's Quality System

● Partner with a multidisciplinary engineering team and leadership to achieve critical technical objectives

Essential Qualifications:

● Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline with a minimum of 3 years of industry experience, or a PhD with at least 1 year of relevant experience in mechatronic systems

● Proficient in PC programming languages suitable for real-time and pseudo-real-time control (C#, C, C++)

● Demonstrated experience in developing motion control, sensing, and state machine software for diagnostic instruments or medical robots that have been commercialized

● Strong analytical abilities coupled with a creative approach to problem-solving

● Effective collaboration skills within a small, agile startup environment

Preferred Qualifications:

● Experience with OpenCV for camera sensing and computer vision tasks

● Background in early-stage medical startups

● Familiarity with medical device development adhering to FDA regulations, including risk assessment and quality management

● Knowledge of motion control systems, optics, and fluid dynamics

● Experience in developing or interfacing with backend systems for data management and network communication

● Proficiency in embedded firmware development
