Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Recreation Therapist to join our Mental Health team at HealthAlliance Hospital. As a Recreation Therapist, you will play a vital role in providing therapeutic clinical group treatment to patients through the use of music, dance, movement, art, and other expressive modalities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement individualized therapeutic activity schedules with input from the treatment team and patient, reflecting the patient's needs, interests, and functioning level.
  • Provide individual and group therapeutic activities to patients while maintaining a safe environment and adhering to a program schedule.
  • Complete assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes in compliance with regulations and established time frames.
  • Assist in the development of Individualized Treatment Plans and complete documentation after each group to reflect services provided and patient progress towards meeting treatment plan goals.
  • Comply with all AT, MHS, and Health Alliance policies and procedures.
  • Participate in staff and team meetings, maintaining an agenda for AT staff meetings.
  • Responsible for scheduling the activity therapists to meet the daily needs of the department and unit.
  • Assist in supervising the activity therapists by facilitating and mentoring team members in the performance of their responsibilities.
  • Communicate Activity Therapy Departmental needs, updates, and concerns to leadership.
  • Assist in the orientation process of new activity therapists.
  • Maintain the AT group schedule.
Requirements
  • Two years of experience working in the mental health field, required.
  • Three years of experience working in the mental health field, preferred.
  • Master's Degree in Creative Arts Therapy, Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW), or Mental Health Counseling (MHC) from an accredited Graduate Program.
  • New State Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT) or NYS Department of Education License or Limited Permit License to practice as an LMSW, LCSW, LMHC, LCAT.
