Recreation Therapist

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Recreation Therapist to join our Mental Health Services team at HealthAlliance Hospital. As a key member of our treatment team, you will be responsible for providing therapeutic clinical group treatment through various modalities, including music, dance, movement, art, and other expressive activities.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement individualized therapeutic activity schedules with input from the treatment team and patients.
  • Provide individual and group therapeutic activities while maintaining a safe environment and adhering to program schedules.
  • Complete assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes in compliance with regulations and established time frames.
  • Assist in the development of Individualized Treatment Plans.
  • Document patient progress towards meeting treatment plan goals.
  • Comply with all AT, MHS, and Health Alliance policies and procedures.
  • Participate in staff and team meetings, maintaining agendas for AT staff meetings.
  • Schedule activity therapists to meet daily departmental needs.
  • Supervise activity therapists by facilitating and mentoring team members in their responsibilities.
  • Communicate departmental needs, updates, and concerns to leadership.
  • Assist with the orientation process of new activity therapists.
  • Maintain AT group schedules.
Requirements
  • Two years of experience working in the mental health field, required.
  • Three years of experience working in the mental health field, preferred.
  • Master's Degree in Creative Arts Therapy, Social Work (MSW), or Mental Health Counseling (MHC) from an accredited Graduate Program.
  • New State Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT) or NYS Department of Education License or Limited Permit License to practice as an LMSW, LCSW, LMHC, LCAT.
