Position Summary

As the Financial Accounting Manager, you will be responsible for managing the accounting, compliance, and internal reporting functions within The New York Times Shared Services Center. You will report directly to the Senior Manager of Financial Accounting and Reporting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and guide the accounting team to ensure timely completion of month-end close processes and account reconciliations.
  • Review and provide oversight on Company-wide Sales Tax returns while mentoring Sales Tax Accountants.
  • Establish priorities and offer support to accounting personnel.
  • Act as a resource for the team to resolve any accounting-related issues.
  • Enforce corporate policies and monitor departmental workflows to enhance efficiency.
  • Maintain a robust control environment and collaborate with the Director of Corporate Compliance on SOX controls related to Project Costing, Asset Management, Lease Management, and General Ledger.
  • Develop and implement new processes aimed at improving departmental efficiency.
  • Ensure high levels of customer service are maintained and address all customer inquiries effectively.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for both internal and external auditors.
  • Prepare documentation and schedules to support audit requests.
  • Utilize data analytics tools to analyze and report on extensive data sets.
  • Monitor employee performance, provide constructive feedback, and support staff development.
  • Assist the Senior Manager of Financial Accounting and Reporting with various projects as needed.
Stakeholders:

Engage with financial management and accounting teams, as well as the Corporate Internal Audit team and external auditors.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional accounting experience.
  • At least 2 years in an accounting management role or as a team lead/project leader.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and CPA certification are required.
Preferred Skills:
  • Familiarity with Workday Financials.
  • Knowledge of technical accounting standards (GAAP, FASB).
  • Experience with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance.
  • Proficiency in Sales Tax and VAT review and returns.
