Job Overview

The Senior Engineer in Control Systems at Slate River Systems Inc. will be responsible for the design and execution of material handling equipment (MHE) control systems. These systems can range in complexity and may encompass various components, including but not limited to: Pallet Conveyors, Case Conveyors, Sortation Systems, Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS), and Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs). Additionally, these systems may integrate with Warehouse Control Systems (WCS), Robot Control Systems (RCS), Traffic Management Programs, and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems (SCADA).

Key Responsibilities

The following duties are essential to the role:

  1. Design and develop standard control hardware solutions, including but not limited to: Electrical Drawing Sets, Control Cabinets, Field Enclosures, Scanners, Scales, Profilers, Vision Systems, Industrial Ethernet, Machine Communications, and Power Distribution.
  2. Support Project Engineering with Pre-Sales activities; conduct Hardware and Software Technical reviews; engage in Hardware Design, PLC Software Development, SCADA Design and Emulation; oversee Field Commissioning; and ensure Final Acceptance.
  3. Serve as a subject matter expert in hardware and mechanical design as it pertains to control systems.

Qualifications

Education:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, accompanied by relevant industry experience in controls engineering.

Experience:

  1. A minimum of 5 years of controls engineering experience specifically related to material handling systems (e.g., Case/Poly Conveyor, Sortation Systems, Pallet Conveyor, AGVs, ASRS).
  2. Proficient in communication with WCS systems.
  3. Familiarity with Emulation software such as Emulate3D.
  4. Experience with Industrial Ethernet Applications.
  5. Knowledge of Power Distribution, Full Load Amperage (FLA) Calculations, and Efficiency Calculations.
  6. Experience collaborating with cross-disciplinary project teams.
  7. Proficient in designing control systems and hardware in compliance with NFPA and UL standards.
  8. Knowledge of Safety Standards, including ISO13849.

General Skills:

  1. Willingness to travel at least 50% of the time.
  2. Proficient in AutoDesk applications, particularly AutoCAD.
  3. Strong expertise in PLC programming using Rockwell Studio 5000, with the ability to work with other PLC platforms such as CodeSys and Siemens.
