Job Summary

Powell Industries is seeking a highly skilled Senior Sales Executive to join our team in Houston. As a Senior Sales Executive, you will be responsible for identifying and developing new business opportunities while managing existing accounts through face-to-face contact throughout North America.

Key Responsibilities
  • Account Management: Perform top-tier sales contact functions for accounts, responsible for the entire Powell product catalogue.
  • Customer Support: Engage and coordinate customer support from different areas of the Powell organization.
  • Sales Generation: Generate new and repeat sales of company products and services.
  • Prospecting: Identify sales prospects and contact assigned accounts.
  • Relationship Building: Establish and maintain current client and potential client relationships.
  • Product Presentations: Deliver product presentations at customer sites, conferences, and exhibitions.
  • Sales Materials: Develop and maintain sales materials and current product knowledge.
  • Lead Follow-up: Follow up on new sales leads and referrals to increase sales potential.
  • Action Planning: Prepare action plans and schedules to identify specific target opportunities.
  • Proposal Development: Prepare detailed equipment proposals and perform sales contract reviews.
  • Marketing Events: Participate in marketing events such as seminars and trade shows.
  • Client Concerns: Help to identify and resolve client concerns and complaints.
  • Sales Reporting: Prepare and maintain a variety of sales status reports, including activities, closings, follow-up, and adherence to department and company goals as required by the department manager.
  • Marketing Strategy: Assist in the implementation of company marketing plans and strategy as needed.
  • Sales Account Management: Manage sales accounts through continuous quality checks and other follow-up.
  • Sales CRM: Keep sales reporting information current and accurate using Sales CRM software.
Requirements
  • Education: BS Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years' experience in a Technical Sales or Marketing role; or combination of 5 years' experience in electrical engineering and sales/marketing role.
  • Knowledge: Working knowledge of electrical products and applications.
  • Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, computer skills, and work planning skills.
  • Standards: Familiarity with NEC, ANSI, and IEC power distribution equipment application standards.
Skills and Abilities
  • Estimation and Negotiation: Ability to estimate, negotiate, and respond to commercial and technical clarifications.
  • Capital Project Understanding: Possess understanding at a higher level of capital project decision drivers, project staffing, purchasing influence, and how decisions are made.
  • Integrated Projects: Demonstrate working knowledge of all portions of integrated projects, including Powell manufactured, intelligent devices, communications, and major buyout items.
  • Customer Negotiations: Ability to lead customer negotiations for commercial terms.
  • Legal Terms: Ability to facilitate customer negotiations on legal terms along with Powell corporate counsel.
  • Revenue Recognition: Familiarity with revenue recognition requirements.
  • Competitive Landscape: Good understanding of the competitive landscape.
  • Market Pricing: Good understanding of the market-level pricing for various solutions.
Working Conditions
  • Temperature Control: Temperature-controlled working environment. Some outside activities may be required.
  • Travel: This position may travel out-of-town to attend training and meetings.
  • Office Environment: Typical office environment: may experience minor discomfort from extensive use of a computer display and keyboard; travel between buildings on campus and between campuses.
