This role is recognized by NEXCOM as the Asset Protection/Safety Specialist.

Job Overview:


Accountable for managing investigative exception-based Point of Sale (POS) analytics, assisting with e-commerce investigative analysis, and developing corporate Asset Protection and Safety Programs by planning, defining, and determining the scope of Asset Protection/Safety report needs based on knowledge of retail Asset Protection/Safety systems, initiatives, investigations, and metrics.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Conducts and manages internal and external theft investigations, suspected unethical behavior, accidents, workplace violence, fraud, waste, or abuse, ensuring compliance with established departmental investigative policies and protocols. Oversees overnight surveillance activities, covert camera installations, investigations, and interviews with dishonest associates, vendors, and contractors. Prepares and ensures that all investigation results are documented professionally in reports according to departmental standards.
  • Provides support to NEXCOM enterprise management for planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating asset protection programs, which include safety, physical security, and operational review functions. Recommends and implements modifications to programs, procedures, standards, and techniques on all matters involving loss prevention, asset protection, and safety to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Utilizes Asset Protection/Safety systems and programs to develop, plan, and design various reporting tools and investigative mechanisms for field retail locations based on conceptual knowledge of retail asset protection to identify and prevent fraud in this area of business, and analyze fraud trends to create rules and exception reports based on concepts. Validates and analyzes department data by cross-referencing and checking data points; conducting trend analyses; assigning categories and subcategories to data symptoms; evaluating the cause and effect escalation of red flags; interpreting trends to identify root causes and relationships to current initiatives; reviewing results with key stakeholders and identifying solutions; and conducting predictive modeling to determine potential impacts, risks, or escalation points.
  • Possesses a thorough understanding and effective use of data analysis tools and inventory management systems to effectively detect, investigate, and resolve issues. Utilizes, but is not limited to, Aspect, APIS, Kount, OMS, Audit Command Language (ACL), Microsoft Access, Smart Query Lookup, Essbase, Central Office, TOAD, Discoverer, RMS, SIM, and Lawson systems.
  • Uses ASPECT to analyze theft trends and develop exception reports based on concepts. Employs data derived from exception reports to initiate investigations within NEX locations.

    Communicates with field managers to ensure information derived from reports is researched, ensuring investigations are initiated and resolved in a timely and efficient manner.


  • Utilizes APIS to develop and analyze statistical case data for corporate and field-level Asset Protection/Safety Management review and planning.
  • Develops and defines the scope of reports within APIS and Aspect based on Asset Protection/Safety knowledge and experience to support Asset Protection/Safety (HQ/field/store) in investigations. Provides end-user access to APIS and Aspect reporting based on hierarchy.

    • Identifies investigative opportunities in an online environment (e.g., Craig's List, Ebay) and initiates investigations on potential theft incidents.
    • Assists with the development and conducts training for all levels of APIS and ASPECT users.
    • Supports the e-commerce investigative team as necessary with fraud review and case development.
    • Analyzes electronic data using Audit Command Language (ACL) to identify issues associated with theft.
    • Reviews workers' compensation and property/casualty program/claims for trends. Develops and provides reports/results to the field.
    • Responsible for developing and managing metrics for the Asset Protection/Safety dashboard.
    • Cultivates strong relationships, partnerships, and communication skills at all levels of the organization, including Corporate, District, Store Operations, and other Asset Protection/Safety Industry professionals.
    • Assists in developing specific reports for District and Store Asset Protection/Safety managers as requested.
    • Provides field support for investigations.
    • Develops specific ASPECT reports for District and Store Asset Protection/Safety Managers as requested.
    • Partners with Code I to manage ASPECT and APIS user accounts.
    • Manages the Civil Demand Program, developing and providing reports/results to the field. Ensures all field locations are utilizing the program to its full potential and partners with Code F to collect unpaid accounts via TOPS or garnishment.
    • Analyzes the CVS program, developing and providing reports/results to the field. Ensures any potential investigations have been resolved by communicating with field management.
    • Manages the Over/Short program, providing reports/results to the field. Ensures any potential investigations have been resolved by communicating with field management.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    This is a non-critical sensitive national security position. The incumbent must receive and maintain a favorably adjudicated Tier 3 (or equivalent) Personnel Security investigation granting eligibility for assignment and retention to a sensitive national security position; failure to do so may result in termination of employment.

    A total of five years of experience, consisting of the following:

    GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Three years of responsible experience gained in administrative, investigative, or loss prevention fields that has enabled the applicant to gain skill in dealing with others in person-to-person work relationships and the ability to exercise mature judgment.

    SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE:
    1 year of related academic study at the high school level may be substituted for 9 months of experience, up to a maximum of a 4-year bachelor's degree for 3 years of general experience.

    SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Two years of progressively responsible experience in retail (field/store) loss prevention which provides analytical, planning, advisory, operational, or evaluative work in security/investigations, internal review and control techniques, reducing and controlling inventory shrink, or similar work that demonstrated the knowledge and ability to perform the duties of the position.
