Lunar Infrastructure Development: This position is integral to our Lunar Infrastructure Development unit. In alignment with Blue Origin's vision of establishing a sustainable human presence in space, we are dedicated to constructing the essential infrastructure required for transporting personnel and cargo from Earth to the Moon.

As a vital member of our diverse engineering team, you will serve as a Systems Engineer within the Vehicle Systems Engineering group, concentrating on System Safety for the lunar lander project. Your role will encompass conducting safety analyses, validating safety and fault tolerance criteria, documenting hazard controls and mitigations in the vehicle design, and supporting integration, verification, and validation processes. You will identify opportunities for design enhancements, mitigate risks to personnel and assets, and bolster the likelihood of mission success. Your enthusiasm, expertise, and capabilities will significantly influence the design and integration of our spacecraft, ensuring mission efficacy. Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct safety analyses, including Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Functional Hazard Assessments (FHAs), Hazard Reports, Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analyses (FMECA), Common Cause Assessments, and Reliability Analysis.
  • Establish and refine strategies for generating safety documentation across the program.
  • Execute verification and validation of safety requirements and hazard controls.
  • Provide oversight, guidance, and expertise on safety analysis deliverables throughout the program.
  • Ensure traceability between safety requirements, verification activities, and documented hazard controls and mitigations.
  • Mentor and offer technical support to fellow engineers in identifying and assessing system safety hazards and reducing risks.
  • Collaborate with Lunar Systems Engineers to develop best practices and identify opportunities for standardized processes across projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, systems engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Over 5 years of systems engineering experience within the aerospace sector.
  • At least 4 years of engineering experience conducting safety analyses on space systems, including one or more of the following: Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Functional Hazard Assessments (FHAs), Hazard Reports, Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analyses (FMECA), reliability analysis, and mitigation strategies.
  • Proven ability to define safety processes and coordinate safety analyses among stakeholders and experts from various engineering disciplines to produce safety and reliability documentation.
  • Strong foundation in Safety and Mission Assurance principles.
  • Experience in verifying safety requirements and hazard controls.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information effectively.
  • Capability to build trust, maintain positive professional relationships, and foster a culture of inclusivity.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in assessing compliance of system safety processes and products against external standards, including Range Safety, NASA, FAA, MIL-STD-882, or ARP-4761.
  • Familiarity with the design, development, and certification of spaceflight systems, avionics system architectures, and radiation environments/effects.
  • Experience with lunar, deep space, or planetary exploration missions.

Compensation: The compensation range for on-site applicants varies based on location.
