Role Summary
In this pivotal position, you will oversee a team of safety and reliability engineers dedicated to a variety of Blue Origin initiatives, catering to diverse clientele. Your team's core responsibilities include formulating strategic plans, assessing resource requirements, and conducting thorough safety and reliability evaluations to pinpoint potential hazards and their mitigations, ultimately crafting a comprehensive safety case for mission operations. This role operates at the confluence of program management, design engineering, supply chain coordination, and quality assurance.
Key Responsibilities
- Guide the Reliability and System Safety teams in supporting various programs and operational groups, focusing on staffing, budgeting, and performance enhancement.
- Act as the internal expert on reliability, shaping our methodologies and approaches.
- Deliver safety and reliability expertise to ensure efficient execution of safety and reliability protocols.
Qualifications
- Proven ability to cultivate trust and foster effective working relationships that enhance team performance and promote an inclusive culture.
- Experience in managing and mentoring employees across various experience levels.
- Background in design, development, integration, or testing, preferably within aerospace or complex technical systems.
- Expertise in conducting reliability and system safety analyses, including Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA), Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA).
- Familiarity with systems engineering principles throughout the product lifecycle.
- Understanding of configuration management practices.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or legally admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in integrating hazard mitigations into product specifications.
- Leadership experience in large-scale system safety initiatives.
- Technical knowledge of launch vehicles, spacecraft, and testing facilities.
- Experience in developing reliability models for spacecraft and launch systems.
- Familiarity with reliability testing design and analysis techniques.
- Experience in refining system safety policies for engineering development environments.
- Deep understanding of systems and reliability engineering principles.
- Proficiency with systems engineering tools.
- Experience in safety-critical environments.
- Ability to work autonomously on fast-paced development projects.
- Experience in ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
- Knowledge of the STPA safety process.
- Basic project management skills.
