Job Summary:

At Builders FirstSource, the Truss General Manager plays a pivotal role in overseeing the manufacturing facility, ensuring the smooth production and distribution of roof and floor trusses. This individual must possess exceptional leadership skills, inspiring others with a can-do attitude, and directing supervisors, managers, and hourly associates while maintaining a deep understanding of operations on location.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and coordinate daily location activities, resolving operating difficulties and implementing resolutions.
  • Perform personnel management duties, including training, hiring, terminating, initiating disciplinary actions, completing performance reviews, and making wage recommendations.
  • Direct supervisors in their personnel management duties.
  • Drive continual improvements and efficiencies through LEAN principles and practices in all areas of location.
  • Monitor location to ensure sufficient quantities of material are in current inventory, responsible for inventory control of materials used at the truss plant, and assure quality control of all products manufactured in the production facility.
  • Serve as safety officer for the respective location, auditing safeness of work areas, and attending monthly location/department safety meetings.
  • Review production reports, department expenses, labor costs, associate attendance reports, and other reports and documents related to location operations and efficiencies.
  • Prepare budget for the assigned location, monitor compliance to the budget, and review variances with department supervisors.
  • Ensure Vehicle and Fleet DOT requirements are met for all vehicles at the facility.
  • Monitor efficiencies within shops, such as manpower requirements, overtime, and schedules.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of the building industry and support operations or the distribution industry operations.
  • Excellent oral communication skills and positive interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate others and work with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of P&L statements.
  • 3-5 years of experience managing a truss plant.
  • Knowledge/experience working directly with and managing processes and workflow in production and dispatch operations.
  • Experience managing sales, pricing, and working with customers.
  • Knowledge of truss design to help assess and manage sales efforts/pricing.
  • Ability to multitask and manage all operations and processes effectively for production, transportation, and sales.
