Your Role

Stantec is currently seeking a Geotechnical Engineer in Training (EIT) to join our Geotechnical practice. In this capacity, you will deliver comprehensive geotechnical services to our clients, ranging from field investigations to the design and oversight of intricate geotechnical structures. Your responsibilities will include specialized tasks such as analyzing and designing foundation elements, as well as dam and levee structures.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning and coordination of geotechnical field investigations.
  • Conduct fieldwork related to geotechnical explorations and construction activities, with the extent of fieldwork depending on your experience.
  • Review boring logs and laboratory data to inform project decisions.
  • Perform basic calculations and other assigned duties under the guidance of a project engineer.
  • Support the execution of detailed analyses and evaluations of geotechnical hazards during the design and construction phases.
  • Contribute to the preparation of designs, drawings, specifications, presentations, and reports.
  • Assist multidisciplinary teams in providing construction support, including reviewing submittals and responding to requests for information.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.
Your Qualifications
  • Understanding of geotechnical engineering principles and analytical methods.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a project team and engage in innovative and critical thinking.
  • Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings and related materials.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, with familiarity in AutoCAD Civil3D, GeoStudio, and gINT being advantageous.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary to support geotechnical investigations and inspections.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field; a Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering is preferred.
  • Successful completion of the FE exam and current EIT status is required.
  • 0-5 years of relevant experience; preference for candidates with over 3 years in geotechnical roles.
  • Co-op or internship experience is desirable.
  • Fieldwork may involve travel 15-25% of the time, depending on project demands.

This position typically involves working in an office environment with extended periods at a desk, as well as fieldwork that may expose you to various weather conditions and require lifting moderately heavy equipment and soil/rock samples.
