Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Technologist to join our team at Corewell Health. As a Medical Technologist, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality laboratory services to our patients and healthcare providers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of routine and specialized tests and procedures to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
  • Independently perform chemical, hematologic, microscopic, morphologic immunologic, and/or microbiologic procedures using laboratory instruments or manual techniques.
  • Release quality patient test results and evaluate instrument performance and quality control results to determine the accuracy and reliability of all analytical data.
  • Correlate results with other laboratory data and/or disease states, and identify technical, instrument, pharmacologic, and/or physiologic causes of unexpected test results.
  • Standardize, calibrate, and perform preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Assist in the development and/or design of new test procedures and/or methodologies, and participate in the evaluation, correlation, and introduction of new instruments or procedures.
  • Participate in the instruction of clinical laboratory science to students, residents, and new employees, and attend, participate in, and present department continuing education and in-service training programs.
  • Participate in various quality assurance and regulatory agency activities in the department, including performance of proficiency testing, involvement in TQM/CQI committees, and developing and documenting quality assurance monitors.
Requirements
  • Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university with 16 semester hours in biology and 16 semester hours in chemistry.
  • Completion of a clinical laboratory approved or accredited program by NAACLS or at least three months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing.
  • U.S. certification, U.S. certification eligibility, or certification assessment by one of the following agencies: ASCP Medical Laboratory Scientist - MLS(ASCP), ASCP Medical Technologist - MT(ASCP), ASCP International Medical Laboratory Scientist - MLS(ASCPi), ASCP Technologist (categorical) certification - BB(ASCP), C(ASCP), H(ASCP), I(ASCP), M(ASCP) or MB(ASCP), AMT Medical Technologist - MT(AMT).
Working Conditions

This position requires considerable walking and standing, occasional light lifting to store supplies, and working in a clinical laboratory with hazardous reagents and infectious materials.
